The chart at right shows the prevalence of problem alcohol use among high school students. It is important to note that this is not experimentation, this is regular use that is becoming a problem and placing the user at high risk for alcoholism. The purple colored bar represents the percentage of high asset students (students with 31 or more assets) who have regular problem alcohol use. As you can see only about 3% of high asset youth drink heavily. However, as you look at the other categories, it is easy to see that when there are fewer assets the rates of problem aclohol use rise rapidly. In fact, in the group with the lowest assets (10 or fewer) almost half of all these students are on the road to addiction long before graduation.
